DARE Project: Assessing the life conditions of refugees and Internally Displace People in Ontario
Program(s) of Study: Political Science
Project Supervisor: Merle Jacobs
Throughout my research, I was able to see a very different viewpoint of the modern refugee crises. I believe that the work that myself and the rest of the DARE project team produced, will give people a better understanding of the life of a refugee and the circumstances that forced them to leave their home countries.
Project Description:
This is a study of the well-being of new comers to Canada focusing civic integration. Quality of life indicators will be used to be evaluated the effect of services provided to the migrants and refugees. Subjects will be identified through the contacts established by the investigators from their previous research conducted in 2019.Social indicators are measures of social well-being and using a comparative analysis of refugees/immigrants in ON. This research will focus on civic integration. This research looks at gender, ethnicity, race, class, language, and religion in evaluating quality of life reflecting if integration or isolation occurs in the host country. Part of the project is to train our research assistants in data collection, literature review, and interviewing skills. The Dean’s Award for Research Excellence (DARE) – Undergraduate enables our students to meaningfully engage in research projects supervised by LA&PS faculty members.
