DARE Project: How Algorithmic Imaginaries Fuel Conspiracy Theories
Program(s) of Study: Political Science
Project Supervisor: Muyang Li
In shaping the relationship between people’s understanding of algorithms and the emergence of conspiratorial thinking, programmers and policymakers tend to deal with this issue from a purely technical standpoint. This research project foregrounds the importance of exploring the cultural dimension of algorithmic perceptions to ascertain why these computational processes are linked with societal distrust. In this, I hope my contributions in identifying cultural factors can supplement the productive discourse on this topic.
