Assistant Professor from Department of Human Rights & Equity Studies discusses the evolution of Pride Toronto on CBC’s Here and Now

Dr. Tom Hooper, assistant professor in the Department of Human Rights & Equity Studies, was recently interviewed on CBC Radio’s Here and Now after three corporate sponsors removed their funding from this year’s Pride Toronto. In the interview, Hooper reflects on the early, grassroots days of Pride Toronto and argues that Pride organizers should reconsider its direction as the event has now become increasingly corporate within its governance committee.

Dr. Tom Hooper holds a PhD in History from York University. His work has explored topics such as the bathhouse raids, the construction of queer historical narratives and the misuse of heritage grants donated to 2SLGBTQ organizations. His research specialisms include human rights, law and justice and 2SLGBTQ history.
