York receives $386,000 in funding from Natural Resources Canada to research wildfire prone communities

Disaster & Emergency Management Associate Professor Eric Kennedy, from the School of Administrative Studies, will be leading a new project entitled “Understanding and Improving Wildfire Mitigation Partnerships with Local Governments.”The project has received $386,000 in funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) through its Build and Mobilize Foundational Wildland Fire Knowledge Program under the Wildfire Resilient Futures Initiative. The grant will be used to research the issues local governments face in wildfire mitigation practices and establish how these efforts can be scaled up. York will collaborate with FireSmart Canada; the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources/Aviation, Forest Fires and Emergency Services; and Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction to complete this crucial and timely project.
