Professor Daniel Richards and Bachelor of Commerce student Raquel Iantorno completed an important study about the challenges faced by graduates looking for a career in financial planning.

The two completed the research project as part of the Dean’s Award for Research Excellence (DARE) program. Conducting a series of interviews with professionals in the financial planning field, the co-authors looked for patterns in each person’s path to success in a field where students often struggle to land their first role due to lack of experience. Iantorno was able to develop important skills through the DARE program, including interviewing, data analysis, presentation and research skills and has achieved a rare academic milestone as an undergraduate student. The study was published by the Financial Planning Research Journal and provides practical advice for students graduating in the personal finance field. The study is available to download on Sciendo.
