The Department of Philosophy is delighted to welcome Matthew Leisinger (PhD Yale 2018) as assistant professor in Fall 2020. Professor Leisinger was appointed to the department in 2019 and has been completing a post-doctoral fellowship at Cambridge University in the UK. His areas of research are early modern philosophy and moral psychology, focusing in particular on John Locke and Ralph Cudworth. He will be teaching courses in the history of modern philosophy and other topics related to his research; he has also taught courses on a range of topics, including bioethics and personal identity. He is currently working on Ralph Cudworth's manuscripts on free will and has published in a number of academic venues, including the British Journal for the History of Philosophy and the Pacific Philosophical Quarterly.
