Foundations of Political Economy

This course introduces students to the political underpinnings of the modern economy and to ‘political economy’ as a distinct field of study. It examines the evolution of capitalism from its humble European beginnings to its present worldwide dominance, its growth and crises, and the social and ecological challenges it now faces. Students learn to assess contemporary events in historical context.
