FW 2022-2023 Welcome and Course Information

Welcome (back)! The School of Administrative Studies is excited to welcome you (back) for the 2022-2023 Fall/Winter academic year! We hope you take advantage of the diverse range of learning opportunities that we offer.

Whether you are starting your first term in September, or returning to continue or complete your studies – it is important to pay attention to some changing details to ensure that you select your courses well.

When choosing ADMS/DEMS courses, pay careful attention to the mode of delivery (explanations of the codes on this page), attendance and participation requirements, and location of exams (on campus or on-line).

Types of Classes and Exams

Mode: LECT

LECT (lecture) is a code used to reference course sections that are delivered on campus (“in person”).

When choosing such a course/section you should plan to attend classes on campus at the day/time listed for the section.  By default, exams in these sections are in-person on campus.

Your course outline, when available, will provide additional details about due dates and exams.

Notes:

  • Please do not enroll in this type of course if you are not able to commit to come to class for lectures and exams in this course.
  • Instructors of LECT sections are not required to record their lectures or deliver course material online for those not attending the scheduled in-class lectures.

All offerings of courses are subject to University and Public Health guidelines.

Mode: ONLN / BLEN

BLEN (blended) and ONLN (on-line) are codes used to reference course sections that are delivered partially or completely on-line.  These sections require regular and reliable Internet access.

ONLN sections that do not have an assigned day/time are offered asynchronously without in-person or real-time required components, except for the possibility of on campus exam(s).  The instructor may offer optional synchronous opportunities to connect.

ONLN and BLEN sections that have an assigned DAY and TIME are expected to include some synchronous (“live”) content delivery.  The designated time for these sections may be used for regular lecture, activities, office hours and any other synchronous content – the instructor will provide more details on the specific plan by the start of the term.

BLEN sections that also have an assigned ROOM, are expected to have some in-person lectures and/or activities on specific dates.

Notes:

  • Students enrolling in sections that have designated day/time/room are expected to be available to connect on-line (or attend in person) during designated time.
  • Instructors are not required to record this the synchronous / in-person portion or provide alternative delivery of the content for those not attending.

Exams

ONLN courses could require in-person exams.  Check the course notes (when enrolling in the course) and the course outline/website for details.

Expect most exams for LECT and BLEN courses to be on campus in-person, with no online/remote alternatives.

Exams, quizzes, and submission deadlines often fall outside the designated time for the course.

Check your course outline and the course website for due dates and details.
