Entrepreneurship & Innovation

A new Markham Campus stream in York University’s established Commerce program, this option lets you combine core business courses with courses focused on developing an action-oriented entrepreneurial mindset. That is a mindset needed for overcoming organizational and societal challenges in an ever-changing world.

Draw from business and social perspectives to understand how value is created in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.


What you’ll learn

  • Apply relevant theories, methodologies and critical thinking skills in solving organizational and societal problems.
  • Learn what it takes to develop new products, establish new firms and create new markets.
  • Work collaboratively with teams to develop and communicate arguments and pitch ideas effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Challenge the status quo, question assumptions and embrace social change.

Hands-on Experience

  • You will benefit from hands-on, practical education in entrepreneurship and innovation built on a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge.
  • Program-specific courses will include Innovation and Creativity, Entrepreneurial Strategy, New Venture Creation, Creating & Launching New Products, Hackathons I & II, and Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Requirements for Admission: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, ENG4U, MHF4U, 4 additional 4U or M courses
