The African diaspora describes communities throughout the world that resulted from the movement of people from Africa. In Canada, the African diaspora is one of the largest ethnic groupings, vastly diverse, but remains connected at multiple intersections including, cultural backgrounds, nationalities, languages, religions, class, skin tones, etc. Much mainstream literature, visual media, including film, paintings and photography, educational resources, etc. fail to include the rich culture, accomplishments and contributions of African/Black people. Using the highly anticipated film, Black Panther, this Conversation seeks to unravel and highlight the peculiar characteristics of continental Africans, to discuss cultural representations of Africa, Blackness, Black people as well as tensions in the Black diaspora communities.
