Technology and Social Movements
This course examines the role of technology in social movements since the 1960s. It takes an interdisciplinary approach combining theories from anthropology, science and technology studies, political science, sociology, geography, communication and cultural studies. Some of the movements and topics covered include: Civil Rights, Zapatistas, anti-globalization, Students for Free Culture, culture jamming, Fair Trade, surveillance, Arab Spring, Occupy Wall Street, hacktivism and climate justice.
