Madeleine Ritts
Madeleine Ritts has over 6 years of experience working in community-based mental health and addiction outreach as a case manager and team lead at St. Michael’s Hospital. She is currently transferring her passion for health justice and critical social work into a new role in palliative and psycho-social care at Kensington Health Centre as the Manager of Psycho-Social Care and Research. Her research interests include political economy, poverty, critical mental health studies, housing, public finance, palliative care, and the socio-economic determinants of health. She has been published in academic journals like Science & Society and The Journal of Community Mental Health and her writing has appeared in The Toronto Star; Healthy Debate; Jacobin Magazine, Aeon, and NOW Magazine. Madeleine has also contributed to various grassroots community organizing campaigns around immigration detention, homelessness, social assistance, and poverty in Toronto. Her current research examines inequalities in the provision of mental health and addictions outreach services on the basis of race, age, and gender.
