Michael Mamo is a senior executive in the Ontario Public Service, whose career spans 32 years with progressively responsible positions in the Justice Sector. He is currently with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General in the role of Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD). The COO provides operational and administrative leadership and direction to OIPRD management/staff to ensure the agency meets its legislated mandate and strategic initiatives, while maintaining close relationships with the Ministry of the Attorney General and other stakeholders. A key role in the past two years has been leading plans to implement and operationalize new legislation. 

Prior to this work, he was responsible for corporate management, government policy initiatives, and oversight for various justice sector agencies and programs in the areas of human rights, victims’ services, legal aid, police oversight, alcohol/gaming, adjudicative tribunals, and bail supervision. Michael has worked collaboratively with other partners on horizontal policy initiatives to support access to justice, and, represented Ontario at the Canadian Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement Conference. 

Michael holds a Master Degree in Public Administration and a Master Degree in Sociology - Specializing in Criminology, both from Queen’s University and an Honours BA in Sociology from Brock University. He is a graduate of the Senior Public Service Leaders Program – Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario) and the Niagara Institute’s Leadership Program. He has instructed in the Law and Administration program at Mohawk College in Hamilton, and was a Teaching Assistant with Queen’s University and Brock University.
