Alana Silva
Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) Spec. Honours and Junior Ambassador for the Public Policy and Administration Student Association (PPASA)
My name is Alana Silva and I am currently a first year student studying Public Administration (BPA). During my four years in high school, I was confused about what degree I wanted to pursue in university. In the beginning, I always believed that I was going to pursue a degree in life science or engineering. But throughout the years, my interests changed and I realized that I have a true passion for law and politics. After doing some research about which program I wanted to go into, I realized that Public Administration is the perfect program.
Now that I have started at York studying Public Administration, I realized that it was the best decision I made. The BPA program is an interdisciplinary program that is suitable for anyone who is planning to work in the public or private sector. Not only does this program align with my interests, but it will also provide me with many job opportunities in various fields. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to become a junior ambassador for the Public Policy and Administration Student Association, and have been able to be a part of many volunteer opportunities. A major volunteering experience that I have gained from this association was being part of York University’s open house. Our team and I promoted the program to many people who were considering York as an option for further studies.
Since joining the association, I have been able to attend various social events and network with alumni, professors, and individuals working for the OPS. This program gives me a better understanding of public policy and administration to set me up for a successful future. - Alana Silva
