Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) Spec. Honours and Junior Ambassador for the Public Policy and Administration Student Association (PPASA)

My name is Rean Pelayo and I am a first year student in the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) program. In my last year of high school, I was experiencing difficulty choosing what I wanted to study. It was not until I discovered York University’s Public Administration program when everything seemed to start falling into place. What grabbed my attention for the program was its versatility. I have always had an interest in the subjects of law, government, and business, and the BPA program combines them all through the range of courses you can take, as well as specializing in a certain stream. I have yet to decide which stream to specialize in, but I am confident that no matter which one I choose, the education and experience I get from my time at York will have more than prepared me for my future ambitions.

Being a Junior Ambassador for the Public Policy and Administration Student Association (PPASA) has only deepened my devotion to wanting to work in public service. While I have only been in university for a year as well as part of the PPASA, simply being exposed to a great team and network of like-minded yet unique individuals is very motivating. I believe that it is often our differences which make for the best ideas, as everyone has something to bring to the table. Attending networking events has given me insight into the amount of hard work that goes into being a public servant, or even just an involved citizen.

There are so many resources provided by the School of Public Policy and Administration that should be taken into consideration and made use of. I am enthusiastic of what is to come out of being in this great program. Here, you are surrounded by people who only want you to achieve and will help you get there. I encourage everyone, no matter what you may study, to attend events hosted by the PPASA, as you can only gain something from going to one. The Student Association is always here to help, and is less intimidating as we are your fellow students! You are set up to succeed, even if it may be a strenuous journey getting there. – Rean Pelayo
