Job Description:
Vanier College Productions provides opportunities for students to work under the LEAP Work-Study program, receiving yearlong mentorship, guidance, and leadership training in a theatrical setting. Work-Study students support Vanier College Productions' performing arts experiential education activities, including working with alumni, staff, and students in fostering community through producing a season of shows, workshops, and events.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Assisting the artistic staff in the organization, planning, and implementation of the 2022-2023 season.
- Organizing, preparing, and managing orientation sessions, orientation performances, and frosh week activities.
- Organizing, promoting, and booking auditions for the 2022-2023 season.
- Overseeing and managing the audition and casting process for all productions in the 2022-2023 season.
- Overseeing all Vanier College Production rehearsal/production schedules.
- Facilitating communications with current students and Vanier College Productions’ Alumni and organizing their involvement in the 2022-2023 season.
- Organizing and coordinating all Vanier College Productions workshops and seminars, including technical requirements, space bookings, required materials, and registration.
- Managing and coordinating all company-related communications and emails, including a regular e-newsletter.
- Facilitating regular communications regarding VCP events and productions.
- Managing the regular, beginning and end of season maintenance and organization of all VCP spaces (theatre, office, green room, workshop, costume room) and all sets, props and costumes.
- Preparing weekly production meeting agendas, co-chairing production meetings, and taking minutes of the meetings.
- Assisting with production and marketing for all productions/events in the 2022-2023 season where needed.
- Attending and participating in regular meetings with artistic and production staff throughout the 2022-2023 season.
- Attend all training sessions, weekly staff and production meetings (Mondays 4:00-7:00 pm throughout the fall/winter terms), midterm and final personal and professional review as outlined in the Becoming YU program.
- Serving as a support for students involved in Vanier College Productions and providing assistance with conflict resolution when needed.
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate York student.
- Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record of demonstrated leadership, as well as a genuine interest in working in a collaborative team-based environment to foster community at York through theatre production and performance.
- An intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Office (Docs, Sheets, etc.) are strongly recommended.
Skills Required:
- Previous skills and experience support ability to make a positive contribution to all tasks related to the smooth functioning of Vanier College Productions.
- Highly organized, energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about theatre and community building at York.
- Previous experience working in theatre, performing/visual arts, or a related field.
- Demonstrated confidence and belief in, and ownership over their work.
