Job Description:
Upper year level undergraduate student with good academic standing who will work with the Student Success Coordinator and staff to
implement specialized programming for the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies to support the academic, access and non-degree priorities of the Faculty.
The student will provide guidance, peer mentorship, peer advising and support regarding academic resources on the York campus to LA&PS students. The candidate will be part of the Student Success & Access Programs Team.
Major Areas of Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of access and bridging programming within the Faculty of LA&PS and other campus partners as needed (e.g. AYA Mentoring Program, Internationally Education Professionals program)
- Assist with the development, creation, and implementation of student leader training
- Co-create and facilitate enrolment presentations catered to incoming students
- Assist with the marketing and promotion of Student Success & Access programming, in collaboration with the Student Success Team and campus partners
- Meet with the Student Success Coordinator on a weekly basis
- Build and monitor online learning communities. This may include, but is not limited to Microsoft Teams, eClass, WhatsApp, etc.
- Ensure the dissemination and collection of Student Success & Access Program assessment pieces, including but not limited to training assessment surveys, post-session surveys, and post-semester surveys
- Co-chair the LA&PS Access Community of Practice weekly meetings
- Support the coordination and implementation of focus group meetings
- Attend weekly Peer Mentor Community of Practice meetings
- Attend all necessary training sessions and meetings, as identified by the Student Success Team
- Complete other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current upper year undergraduate York student (we encourage applicants from diverse programs of study although due to the nature of the position, students from programs affiliated with LA&PS are preferred)
- Experience and familiarity with LA&PS and York (Keele) campus student support services
- Previous experience in in peer mentorship an asset
Skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written): academic writing, public speaking and presentation proficiency
- Experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds/culture
- Demonstrates an eagerness to learn and take on initiative
- Demonstrates organizational and time management skills
- Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with students, volunteers and staff
- Knowledge of York’s services and resources for students and of campus life.
