Job Description:
The LA&PS HERO (Honesty, Education, Recognition, and Outreach) Ambassadors (or “Heroes”) are work study students who will contribute to the education of and outreach to fellow LA&PS students regarding Academic Honesty and Awards & Bursaries.
As part of your Leadership, Engagement and Ambassador Program (LEAP) experience, you will participate in Becoming YU, a program designed to support students in:
- Creating meaningful goals and objectives
- Recognizing the value of their personal, academic and professional experiences
- Identifying their competencies and skills
- Articulating their skills and experiences with confidence.
Becoming YU includes regular meetings with your student employment supervisor/coach for reflecting on your progress and getting valuable feedback.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to and assist in the facilitation of student workshops and educational outreach to support students understanding of Academic Honesty/Integrity while attending University.
- Contribute to and assist in the facilitation of student workshops and communications with regards to awareness of awards and bursary availability, timelines and opportunities.
- Maintain a social media presence and contribute to communications content to support and promote the department of Student Success and Retention within LA&PS.
- Update and maintain online outreach as needed (website).
- Work collaboratively with fellow work study colleagues in LA&PS on joint initiatives (e.g. International Student Outreach).
- Attend events and classrooms as needed to promote both Academic Honesty workshops and Awards opportunities.
- Various administrative duties as assigned, including record keeping, computer-based data entry, some statistical analysis to assess reach and impact of services, and photocopying
- Research on Academic Honesty educational and outreach practices, as assigned.
- Attend all training sessions and meetings, unless in direct conflict with a class. Inform supervisors of any conflicts well in advance if attendance is not possible.
- Stay in regular contact with supervisors and meet regularly to keep all parties informed.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
This position reports directly to the Coordinator, Student Awards and Academic Integrity and works in cooperation with the Student Success and Retention Team, LA&PS Dean’s Office Communications Team, Advancement Team, and Student Relations Advisor Team. The position may have contact with departments within LA&PS, Student Council of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (SCOLAPS), and other departments and student groups on campus.

The HERO will meet regularly with their supervisor and participate in the Becoming YU protocols. These include self-assessment, performance reviews, and opportunities for reflection.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- Current undergraduate York student within the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies who has successfully completed at least 2 years of university
- No previous cases of Academic Dishonesty
- High academic standing
- Previous experience related to student leadership positions and coordination of events considered assets.

- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Some graphic design/ artistic ability, marketing and/or communications background a definite asset
- Good attention to detail

- Eagerness to learn and take initiative
