Study Abroad: Funding

We are committed to offering global experiences that enable students to grow and learn about the world. To help you achieve your goals, LA&PS has the LA&PS International Study Abroad Award to support global learning. Please read the eligibility criteria carefully and only apply for the period in which you are travelling (i.e. only select the application form for the dates you are travelling). Please note that non-LA&PS students are not eligible to apply for this award.

Students travelling from May 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026

LA&PS International Study Abroad Award

Only current registered LA&PS undergraduate students (domestic or international) participating in a Summer Study Abroad or Away faculty-led course (3.0 or 6.0 credits) with a minimum GPA of 5.00 (C+) are eligible to apply.

Students are eligible to receive one award within an academic year and a maximum of two awards in the duration of their studies.

Award Confirmation

You will be notified of the award confirmation decision via e-mail within four weeks of submitting your application. If you apply for funding more than 3 months in advance of your departure date (ex. if you apply for funding in January but whose programs do not start until July) you should not expect to receive any funding until one month before your departure.

Awarded funds will be deposited into your student account at York University. You may request a refund via Student Financial Services to transfer the award from your student account to your bank account.

If you applied for LA&PS International Study Abroad Award, you can also apply to York International for additional funding, but are not guaranteed to receive multiple awards.

Deadlines

Students should apply for funding roughly 4 weeks prior to their official date of departure or start date of the activity to allow time for the funding to be posted to their accounts. Awards are intended to provide support to eligible undergraduate students for their upcoming study abroad experience – retroactive applications (e.g. applications made while you are abroad or after you have returned) will not be considered.

Please note: Students must use their YorkU e-mail address to apply as e-mail addresses from outside the York organization are not supported by the application platform. If your @my.yorku.ca e-mail address is not working, please input your YorkU e-mail address using only @yorku.ca.

How much could I receive?

  • Summer Study Abroad or Away faculty-led course (3.0 or 6.0 FCE): $500 per student, regardless of program duration or destination.
