Vanier Improv Company
October 2022 - March 2023
The Vanier Improv Company (VIC) performs regularly throughout the year on Tuesday nights. The shows are a combination of improvisational comedy and sketch, and will have you laughing out of your (virtual) seats! The troupe tries not to take itself too seriously and is always looking for suggestions from the audience.
For Show
November 24 - 27
World Premiere Workshop Production
When choir geek Cassie Russell transfers to the prestigious Brentwood Prep for her senior year, she is single-minded in her pursuit of joining their famed champion show choir. But as she fights her way into their exclusive social circles, led by cold choir captain Brianna Morgan, Cassie learns that the criteria for earning a spot at Nationals is far more complicated than just talent.
The Labyrinth of Desire
January 19 - 22
When Florela’s fiancé decides to leave her and compete with other suitors for the hand of the rich and beautiful Laura, Florela goes undercover to keep her man.
Filled with clever deceptions and hilarious disguises, this who’s-who comedy of romantic intrigue explores the delightful and essential mystery of love. This stylish and contemporary adaptation proves that long before Sex and the City, intuition and infatuation have challenged the boundaries and fluidity of human desire.
Something Rotten
March 2-12
Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.
Show Choir
March 23-26
VCP’s Show Choir performs its annual show, comprised of new arrangements and mashups of Broadway showtunes and Top 40 hits.
Selections will include songs from Tick Tick Boom, Moulin Rouge, The Last Five Years, Hamilton, Frozen 2, Ordinary Days, Jingle Jangle, Jekyll & Hyde, and songs made famous by The Jonas Brothers, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande, Stevie Nicks & Miley Cyrus, Elton John & Kiki Dee, Selena Gomez, Sara Bareilles, Jax, and Avril Lavigne!
BIPOC Artist Hub
March 31 & April 1
Welcome to VCP’s BIPOC Artist Hub Showcase! Our BIPOC Artist Hub was formed during our 2021-2022 season with the hope of creating a safe space open to all BIPOC artists (theatre, dance, music, visual art, film, design, media, etc.) at York. At that time, we planned on having a showcase of art from the students of the hub, but unfortunately could not due to COVID-19 restrictions resulting from the omicron variant. This is why we are so please to be able to present the hub showcase to you all this year with a variety of intricate, intimate and thought provoking art pieces.
