Production & Crew

VCP has many opportunities to get involved behind the scenes as part of the production team or crew for our shows and events. We conduct a round of production interviews every September to fill larger roles for our various performing groups. However, throughout the season (from October-March) we post weekly opportunities to get involved with smaller production roles on the Volunteer & Paid Opportunities webpage.

Larger production roles include:

  • Stage Manager
  • Assistant Stage Manager
  • Designer (Set, Costumes, Props, Lighting, Sound)
  • Board Operator
  • Video Editor
  • Accessibility Support
  • Closed Captioning

Smaller production roles include:

  • Technician
  • Set/Props Builder
  • Painter
  • Front of House
  • Videographer
  • Photographer
  • Graphic Design
  • Marketing

Tips for your production interview

Production interviews are very relaxed. Upon arrival, you will be asked to fill out a form and then we will go around the room and ask everyone to tell us a little about themselves. The goal of the group interview is for us to get to know you and understand more about your experience, skills and interests. Whether you have TONS of theatre experience or NONE, we WILL find a place for you to be involved with our company. So, if you want to be involved with VCP, you’re in! The purpose of the interview is for us to best place you within the company.

Please prepare the following for your interview:

Calendar / Schedule

Please bring your calendar or schedule for the academic year so that you can accurately tell us about your availability to be involved. We’ll be looking to cross-reference your availability with our rehearsal, tech week, and show schedules so it’s REALLY important for you to come in knowing when you ARE and when you ARE NOT available.

Area of interest

Think about HOW and WHERE you would like to be involved with VCP. We are looking for people to fill all of the production roles, so some advance thoughts about what you’d like to do and what you hope to learn would be awesome!

Portfolio (Optional)

VCP is a place for people to LEARN new skills, so we don’t expect anyone coming in to be a pro, but if you have some previous experience, we are happy to look at a portfolio of your work or online links (screen sharing works too!). This mostly applies to people who are interested in being a designer, video editor, videographer or photographer.
