Year 1 Students
- Review the relevant degree checklist
- Put important dates into your calendar/schedule
- Take required first-year courses
- Take General Education courses
- Note the First-Year Late Withdrawal petition to waive the withdrawal deadline of a course completed in a student's first year of study at York
- Join the Professional Writing Students’ Association and check out the opportunities at Existere
- Explore & take advantage of LA&PS student supports and resources, especially the Writing Centre
- Connect with your Peer Mentor! Your college assigns a Peer Mentor to you at the start of term. If you haven’t been assigned, reach out to your college team. Find out more about York’s colleges and which one you are affiliated with
Year 2 Students
- Review & update your degree checklist
- Put important dates into your calendar/schedule
- Take required second-year courses
- Review any outstanding GEN EDS and try to complete them
- Review if you are interested in adding a Minor
Year 3 Students
- Review & update your degree checklist
- Put important dates into your calendar/schedule
- Enrol in 3rd year keystone courses as soon as you’re able to ensure sections remain available
- Don’t forget to take your additional 6 program credits at the 3000-level
- Take required third-year courses for program and outside degree courses
- Consider doing a degree audit with an academic Advisor
- Note that in order to graduate with an Ordinary Degree, you must apply via the Registrar’s Office.
As you head towards your final year,
- Start thinking about post-graduation opportunities!
- Contact the Career Centre to explore possible career options
- Take note of application deadlines for graduate school, post-graduate diplomas and continuing studies as well as student grants and funding opportunities. Will you need references letters from professors?
Year 4 Students
- Review & update your degree checklist

- Take required fourth-year courses for program and outside degree courses
- Consider doing a degree audit with an academic Advisor
- Note that in order to graduate, you must apply via the Registrar’s Office!
