Writing Centre Classroom Visits

The Writing Centre's Class Visits program is closed for the summer, but will return in F/W 2024!

During F/W 2024-2025 term the Writing Centre is pleased to offer class visits from qualified Writing Instructors of up to one hour per instructor. During this visit, our instructors will provide a Writing Centre Orientation (15 minutes) and use the remainder of the time to offer student-centred, activity-focused writing instruction customized to meet the needs of your students as they prepare for upcoming assignments.

About

Please note that due to limited scheduling constraints, we normally visit lectures or seminars, rather than individual tutorials, to ensure all students benefit from the class visit experience. During the session, we ask that the course director and TAs remain present during the Instructor’s presentation. Finally, if you have already scheduled a class visit in FW 2024-25, we regret that we are able to send Writing Instructors only once per course (New Winter term courses are welcome!).

First & Second Year

This program is ideal for first and second year classrooms. Our instructors will contact you ahead of the arranged visit to discuss upcoming assignments and specific aspects of the course, the students, and classroom resources to ensure the sessions are as relevant and interactive as possible. We also cannot guarantee that a particular instructor is available, but will do our best to accommodate any requests. Finally, we may not be able to schedule a visit if the writing task or genre is too specialized.

Teaching

Writing Centre faculty are also happy to meet with instructors to consult on assignment design, course design, multilingual teaching strategies, and integrated discipline-specific writing instruction to aid in course design. Please check this option on the Class Visit Request Form if you are interested in consulting with one of our Writing Centre Specialists.
