In order to abide by the University's policies on academic honesty, please follow strictly these rules:
- You are strongly advised to take the Academic Integrity Tutorial, which
"explores plagiarism and related matters with case examples and positive strategies you can use to improve your academic efforts
and avoid committing an academic offense as outlined in the Senate Policy on Academic Honesty. York's Policy and procedures on
academic honesty are featured, and the tutorial includes a self-test allowing you to gauge how well you understand issues related
to academic integrity." Once you complete the tutorial, the system will record the fact, and you will not be asked to take the tutorial again.
- You are strongly advised to read the various aids and guides under Academic Integrity in Courses at York University.
- In particular, in all your messages, assignments, essays and exams, any material quoted word-for-word from any source must
be enclosed in quotation marks ("") and properly referenced. For the referencing conventions commonly used, please check
the Libraries website,
and especially the 'Style/Writers' Manuals.'
In all your assignments, essays and exams, any material paraphrased—that is, rephrased or reworded by you—should
not be enclosed in quotation marks, but should still be referenced as indicated under the previous bullet.
- While you can discuss your work with other fellow students, the assignments, essays, and exams you submit must
be your own, personal work.
- Failure to abide by these rules will result at least in a loss of points, and may lead to the penalties described in the
Senate Policy on Academic Honesty (see first bullet). If you have any doubts, please ask or send e-mail to the instructor.
