Rate of Pay: $17.20 - $17.50
Hours: Fall/Winter Up to 15hrs/week

Job Purpose
The Career Peer Educator will support career programs and initiatives by increasing awareness of services, supporting students in building career self-management skills, helping students develop the skills and strategies they need to be successful in their individual job searches and broader career goals, creating opportunities for students to make connections, and encouraging dialogue around careers.
Job Duties
Under the direction of full-time staff, the Career Peer Educator will be responsible for some or all the following duties:
Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support including minute-taking, committees, compiling data and resources, and program evaluation.
- Track service usage and metrics; input data and perform administrative tasks as assigned.
- Participate in preparatory and in-service training offered by the Career Centre, the Becoming YU program, as well as ongoing weekly team meetings.
- Provide customer service at the front desk as needed.
Peer Support & Coaching
- Identify student needs and assist students in locating accurate career and job search information.
- Provide one-on-one career support to students and recent graduates to develop career self-management skills such as job search strategies, resumé and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and building professional online presence through LinkedIn and other social media profiles.
- Use a peer coaching approach to support students and recent graduates with career questions in a group setting (drop-ins, special events, and other venues as needed).
- Provide informed referrals to internal and external career resources.
Peer Outreach & Education
- Represent the career team at various campus events; be proactive at events by engaging passers-by; promote Career Centre services, and act as an ambassador for the Career Centre.
- Assist at career events as needed (e.g. Career Fair).
- Develop content for the career website and social media (e.g. Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok).
- Engage in project work to support career services and new program initiatives (e.g. research, reports, resource development, etc.).
Education & Skills:
- Must be enrolled as a York student.
- Ability to build rapport, apply active listening, coaching, and or advising skills.
- Experience making effective referrals; ability to exercise sound judgment in dispensing information and recognize when to go to/refer to professional staff at the Career Centre.
- Ability to support students and new grads in their job search efforts and career success; proven interest in student success and supporting fellow students.
- Ability to communicate effectively while facilitating group sessions.
- Ability to actively seek out and contribute to learning opportunities for self and team members; demonstrate commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
