Rate of Pay: $19.50 

Hours: Fall/Winter Up to 15hrs/week Summer: Up to 35hrs/week 

Work Location: York University Markham Campus – 1 University Blvd, Markham, ON 

Job Purpose:  

The Communications & Marketing Assistant is responsible for research, writing and editing of communications and marketing materials. 

Job Duties: 

Under the direction of a permanent staff member the Communications & Marketing Assistant may be responsible for some or all the following tasks: 

  • Assist with the implementation of communications strategies. 
  • Develop engaging and informational marketing and communications content. 
  • Write, copy edit, proofread and format content to support a variety of marketing initiatives. 
  • Assist with creating newsletters, promotional materials or online content in accordance with marketing standards. 
  • Conduct fact checking and market research to support information gathering and content creation. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and inter-departmental teams to support communication initiatives. 
  • Organize, shoot and edit promotional videos and multimedia productions. 
  • Provide monthly reporting on communications activities and related information. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education and Skills: 

  • Must be enrolled as a York student 
  • Ability to creatively write content to engage an intended audience. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and organize time effectively. 
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to use research methods to identify and verify information. 
  • Ability to use social & digital media to effectively communicate or respond to others. 
  • Ability to use editing software and a variety of computer applications. 
  • Ability to set up and operate video, photography and other production equipment.
