Computer Lab Support Assistant 

Rate of Pay: $17.20 - $17.50 

Hours: Fall/Winter Up to 15hrs/week  

Work Location: York University Markham Campus – 1 University Blvd, Markham, ON 

Job Purpose:  

The Computing Support Assistant is responsible for providing technical support and customer support to end users. 

Job Duties: 

Under the direction of a permanent staff member, the Technical Support Assistant may be responsible for some or all the following tasks:  

  • Provide technical support and customer service to users in person, telephone and email through a ticketing system.  
  • Document and respond to service requests, incidents, and general information requests received at the helpdesk.  
  • Troubleshoot and resolve computing and account related issues using standard operating procedures.  
  • Gather information on all requests, tracks incidents, and escalates issues when required. Responsible for monitoring the lab and performing opening and closing produces.  
  • Conducts computer tutorial sessions or related workshops. 
  • Deploy, track and maintain computers and equipment. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education and Skills: 

  • Must be enrolled as a York student. 
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of technology and equipment.  
  • Ability to learn and use a variety of computer applications.  
  • Ability to recognize and solve problems.  
  • Ability to communicate with others to explain and share information. 
  • Ability to present and share ideas to an audience.
