Preamble
The Learner Outcomes Advisory Committee for the York University School of Medicine undergraduate medical education program is being established to propose program learning outcomes (PLOs) for the undergraduate medical education program. This will be a short-term time limited committee providing recommendations to the Transitional Curriculum Committee (TCC) so they can complete their work on the development of the undergraduate medical education curriculum.
Vision of the School
York University’s School of Medicine will prepare the next generation of talented frontline primary care doctors — who represent the diversity of the communities in which they live — to not only thrive in a new, interprofessional, team-based health care environment but to continue to adapt to evolving patient, community and health system needs.
Purpose
The Learner Outcomes Advisory Committee for the School is established to develop and propose program learner outcomes (PLOs) for the undergraduate medical education program.
In completing its work, it will take into consideration the following:
- The Committee of Accreditation for the Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) accreditation standards and elements
- The Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance Guide to Quality Assurance Processes
Term
The Terms of Reference is effective from October 1, 2024 and will continue until December 1, 2024, after which they will be reviewed and revised, as appropriate.
Membership
- Advisor, Curriculum and Accreditation, Co-Chair
- Faculty Lead, Curriculum and Accreditation, Co-Chair
- Medical Education Developer
- Four (4) Community Physicians:
- Two (2) Community Primary Care Physicians (Family Medicine)
- Two (2) community generalist specialists
- Four (4) academic faculty members
- Advisor, Curriculum and Operations, UGME
- One (1) Education Manager at York University
Operations
- The Learner Outcomes Advisory Committee will meet weekly or at the call of the Co-Chairs
- One full day (6 hour) workshop will occur at York University
- Quorum will be 50% plus one of the committee members
- The term of the representatives is until the proposed learning outcomes are developed
- Meeting minutes reflecting the activity of the committee shall be recorded
- Committee members are expected to attend meetings or, if unable to do so, send advance notice of their absence.
- When one Co-Chair is not present, the other Co-Chair will chair the committee.
- Key parties of interest, such as advisors internal or external to York University, will be invited to attend on an as-needed basis
- The Learner Outcomes Advisory Committee reports to the Dean of Record/Institutional Lead for the School and to the Transitional Curriculum Committee.
Committee Member Expectations
- Attend at least 75% of the meetings
- Prepare for meetings in advance
- Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
- Solicit collegial input, as appropriate
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide advice and recommendations about proposed PLOs
- Communicate recommendations to the Transitional Curriculum Committee
