What is a genre? A genre is a stylized text that follows certain conventions, which give us a particular sense of meaningful organization as to what form it 'should' be comprised of.

Therefore, the audience has a preconceived notion of how the form will direct the content. For example, when one goes to see a western, they're expecting to see a cowboy, open range, guns, horses, brawls, and frontier life. The narrative will be derived from these elements.
