Different Forms of Ozby Aisha GilaniHome > Different Forms of Oz Most of the people are familiar with the movie 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz; however, this fairy tale was originally published as a novel, written by Lyman Frank Baum, in 1900. It was originally published as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and was adapted for a theatrical musical play in 1902. With that stage play running throughout the decade and achieving so much success, Baum felt impelled to follow up on his Oz saga with several more books, even though he had not intended it as a series. The stage play was also followed by series of short silent films with Oz themes including the MGM movie. Let us look at how The Wizard of Oz has evolved:
