Social Issues/Concerns:

  • Issues of deciet
  • Infidelity
  • Naivete

Lighting:

  • Black and white film, therefore limited lighting capabilities
  • Shadows as reflections of candlelight is used to create suspense

Camera Angles:

  • Quick cuts to create suspense
  • Point-of-view shots to create the feeling that it could be you, the viewer who is experiencing what the character is experiencing.

Audio:

  • Gloomy, loud music in intro of film and into end credits only
  • No music throughout film

Narrative:

  • Gets to the point rather quickly
  • Twist at end; mistress really tricks wife into killing husband, really teaming up with husband to kill wife
  • Ending: Open-ended (The film implies that the woman - the wife - may actually have faked her death and is still alive…)
