I AM JACK'S NARRATIVE
STRUCTURE
MOVEMENT CHRONOLOGICALLY
The
energy of the film is reflected in the constant movement within
the plot and scene organization. We begin the movie moments before
it's ending with a moving visual effect that starts at Jacks Amygdala,
the fear center (Fincher, DVD Commentary),
through the neurons of his brain, through his skull, out one of
this sweat glands, down his face and down what we find out is
a barrel of a gun stuck in Jacks mouth. From there the narrator
decides that he should start the story at the beginning to better
explain how we end up at this point. After jumping to the beginning
we chronologically move through the story, with deeper aspects
of the plot developed through the use of flashbacks, dream sequences,
alternate scenarios and various visual effects that all utilize
rapid movement, both spatially and through time.
