Techniques of Interpretation

We have looked at some ways to analyze ads and in doing so we have found what makes them successful in persuading their audiences. The Shannon-Weaver model of communication and the concept of en-coding and decoding messages. Grossberg also points out the importance of signifiers within themes and symbols. As signifiers can cross many boundaries within encoded messages, behavior, meaning themes and symbols this accounts for the intertextual relations that happen within the language of advertising.
