The Persuasive Sway of Colour

Advertisers have found that men are not very colour or detail oriented. Advertisements directed at men will often encompass a powerful or sexy image. It is also noted if one picks up a magazine made for men, the primary colours used are red, blue, gray, white and black with bright colour accenting throughout. "Studies have shown that men prefer bright colors and women like softer colors…men like simple things. The same is true with colors. For example, men prefer red to burgundy, or blue to turquoise. Most men only know the basic colors like red, blue and green. They do not know (or care) what color flax or salmon is…Advertisements with yellow and blue are more effective with men than women. However, men like orange better than yellow… Blue is definitely the most popular color of both men and women. Several well-known corporations use blue in their logos."
