York University experts available for comment on provincial budget

York University experts are available to comment on a range of topics related to the 2016 provincial budget, which will be tabled by Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa on Thursday. The budget is expected to reveal how the Liberals plan to address the deficit, details on wine sales in grocery stores, and implementation of the cap-and-trade system.

Ian Roberge, Associate Professor and Chair of political science at Glendon College can comment (in English and French) on: the deficit; the plan to reach a balanced budget; and the political ramifications.  (He is available in advance and on Friday, following the budget.)

Robert Drummond, Professor Emeritus of political science in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, can comment on: federal-provincial relations; and balancing the budget.

Alan Middleton, Professor of marketing at the Schulich School of Business can comment on: marketing of wine in grocery stores; consumer behavior effects on wine sales; branding of wine; and business strategies to increase wine sales.

Jose Etcheverry, Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Studies, can comment (in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) on: the budget and climate policy; renewable energy; carbon-pricing market and greenhouse gas limits; cap-and-trade-system; and sustainable energy solutions. Mark Winfield, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Studies can comment on: climate change policy, including cap-and-trade; electricity policy, including renewable energy; low-carbon transition and clean technology strategies; environmental policy; smart regulation and alternative service delivery.

Joan Gilmour, professor of law at York’s Osgoode Hall Law School, can comment on: health care legislation; cuts to health services; and the effects of the budget on patients.

James McKellar, Professor at the Schulich School of Business can comment on: infrastructure and cities; infrastructure projects; and urbanization.

Thomas Klassen, Professor of public policy and political science in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies can comment on: the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan; unemployment insurance; retirement; pension and income security policy; older workers; and social assistance (For phone or skype interviews, email: tklassen@yorku.ca).
