York University experts available for comment on federal budget
TORONTO, March 21, 2016 − York University experts are available to comment on topics related to the 2016 federal budget, which will be tabled by Finance Minister Bill Morneau on Tuesday. The budget is expected to detail how the Liberals plan to address the projected deficit of at least $18.4 billion, plans for infrastructure investment, economic growth and the impact on the middle class.
Ian Roberge, Associate Professor and Chair of political science at Glendon College can comment (in English and French) on: the deficit; balanced budgets; and the political ramifications.
James McKellar, Professor at the Schulich School of Business can comment on: infrastructure and cities; infrastructure projects; and urbanization.
Amin Mawani, Associate Professor in the Schulich School of Business, can comment on: taxation; tax-bracket changes; middle-class tax cuts; and taxation of employee stock options.
Martin Shadwick, Faculty member in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, can comment on: foreign and defence policy; defence procurement; capital acquisition programs; and Canada’s military.
Jose Etcheverry, Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Studies, can comment (in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) on: the budget and climate policy; renewable energy; carbon-pricing market and greenhouse gas limits; cap-and-trade-system; and sustainable energy solutions.
Mark Winfield, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Studies can comment on: climate change policy including federal-provincial dimensions; carbon pricing; low-carbon transition and clean technology strategies; environmental assessment and pipelines; and environmental policy.

Stephen Gaetz, Professor in the Faculty of Education and Director of the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, can comment on: homelessness and housing issues; election promises related to social housing; and the budget’s impact on government housing.
Perry Sadorsky, Associate Professor at the Schulich School of Business, can comment on: impact of energy prices on the federal budget; how the budget will impact Canadians’ finances; effects of the weak dollar on the Canadian economy and the federal budget.
