York U’s “Glendon Global Debates” series: CETA and the Canada-EU trade relationship

TORONTO, March 20, 2017 – York University’s Glendon Global Debates series hosts a discussion on the trade relationship between Canada and the European Union (EU), reviewing the Comprehensive Economic & Trade Agreement (CETA), on Thursday, March 23 at the Centre of Excellence, Glendon Campus.

This is the third debate in the series, titled “A New Framework for International Trade or the Last of Its Kind?” It is presented by the Glendon School of Public and International Affairs in partnership with the EU consulates in Toronto and the Canadian International Council – Toronto Branch. The discussion will review CETA which was adopted in the European Parliament in February and could be implemented as early as April. The Agreement is seen as a test of the EU and Canada’s ability to forge future trade accords and as a counterweight to anticipated protectionism under the new U.S. administration.

The timely debate will be moderated by Derek DeCloet, executive editor of the Globe and Mail and editor of Report on Business.

Topics:
• Political impact of CETA and the future of the EU/Canada partnership
