NAFTA renegotiation, focus of York U’s Glendon Global Debates

TORONTO, October 20, 2017 – York University is hosting The Political Implications of the NAFTA Renegotiation, as part of its Glendon Global Debates series, on Oct. 19 at the Centre of Excellence, Glendon Campus.

Experts will debate the political ramifications of the proposed changes to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between Canada, Mexico and the US Organized in partnership with the Canadian International Council–Toronto Branch, the discussion will emphasize the impact on Canadian companies, businesses and investors with ties to cross-border trade between the three countries.

WHAT: The Political Implications of the NAFTA Renegotiation, a debate focused on:

  • The political impact of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) discussions and the future of the Canada–US–Mexico partnership
  • Canada’s political role in the negotiations
  • Boosting Canada’s economy in light of new political realities
  • Challenges and fallout from a renegotiated NAFTA

  • Laura Dawson, Director, Canada Institute, Wilson Center & Former Senior Economic Analyst, US Embassy in Canada
  • Konrad von Finckenstein, Arbitrator, international and domestic commercial disputes, trade and investor state disputes, competition issues (particularly mergers and acquisitions) and communications
  • Stephen Weiss, Associate Professor of Strategic Management/Policy and International Business, Schulich School of Business
