York University expert available to offer tips on solving math anxiety

TORONTO, August 27, 2018 – The solution to the problem of math anxiety in children lies with parents and teachers, according to Professor Tina Rapke, of York University’s Faculty of Education.

To begin with, parents should stop conveying to their kids that it’s okay not to be a math person, says Rapke. Math teachers can also help by allowing their students to think freely and enable them to come up with solutions on their own, says Rapke. She is available to comment on topics including:

  • Cool strategies for classroom teaching and learning of mathematics
  • Development of mathematical ideas
  • Why and how to focus on students’ ideas to enhance math education
