York University joins ARUCC’s MyCreds™ | MesCertif™ to offer students digital access to diplomas

TORONTO, Feb. 11, 2021 –York University has joined the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC) to deliver students’ documents to them electronically through a secure, centralized credential wallet, enabling them to share them anytime, anywhere.

ARUCC’s MyCreds™ | MesCertif™will give students private online access to their records ensuring they alone decide when and where their personal information is shared. York University students now have secure online access to graduation confirmation and enrolment verification letters, and during March will gain digital access to diplomas. By May, they will be able to request and digitally share their official transcripts with other educational institutions and potential employers through MyCreds™ | MesCertif™.

York is an early adopter of the digital credentialing network in Canada, which is being used by more than 100 institutions in several countries around the world.

MyCreds™ | MesCertif™ is expected to bring efficiencies to what has traditionally been a paper-based process and help to mitigate credential fraud. Students will, for example, be able to send official, digitized and cryptographically signed transcripts or other documents in seconds, directly to whomever they like – anytime, anywhere. It is also expected to streamline admissions for international students because if their former institution or regional credential depository like CHESICC in China, is available on the global network, they will be able to send their official academic documents from outside of Canada directly to York, quickly and easily.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted a number of areas for us to modernize our services to meet student needs. Our partnership with ARUCC’s MyCreds™ | MesCertif™ is a big step in that direction by empowering our learners – both past and present – to use and share their academic records when and how they want through a secure digital national network with global connections,” said York University registrar Darran Fernandez.   “Through this initiative, we are using digital technology to support our students and to help them achieve success – an important commitment that is central to our University Academic Plan.”

“Supporting York University’s  post-secondary students and graduates with sharing their official documents online and when and where they need them, securely and quickly, is critical at any time but is particularly important during a pandemic. ARUCC’s MyCreds™ | MesCertif™  represents one of the most significant student service initiatives today in Canada. It is an effective means to support students as they transition into, between, and beyond their university experience,” says Joanne Duklas, executive lead and former president of ARUCC. “MyCreds™ | MesCertif™ provides learners with a comprehensive credential wallet and a national, secure digital environment for sharing official, digitized post-secondary badges, micro-credentials, documents, transcripts and diplomas – anytime, anywhere. Second level verification of a York University document will no longer be required if it is coming directly through MyCreds™ | MesCertif™.”
