A prospective student is a person with the potential to attend York University. They remain a prospective student throughout the application cycle. 

A prospective student can be an Ontario high school student, mature student, out of province high school student, international student, transfer student, visiting student, current university student or a student who is not yet in their final year of high school.

The term prospective student is used for both undergraduate and graduate recruitment and admission.
