Advanced standing is credit granted towards a York University graduate degree or diploma. Advanced standing is awarded for graduate-level courses completed at the University or another post-secondary institution. To count for advanced standing, completed courses can not have been used to fulfill the requirements of another degree program or graduate diploma.

For graduate studies, following initial registration in a graduate program and prior to completion of the first term of study, graduate students may request advanced standing for eligible and completed graduate-level courses.

Advanced standing is the graduate equivalent of transfer credit and transfer credit is an informal synonym for advanced standing.
