An address refers to a physical location where a person resides or receives mail. An address record may also contain an effective date, an expiry date and a telephone number.

The format of an address may contain the particulars of the location, including the civic address, the city (or municipality), the province (or territory or state), the postal code, and country.

Toronto, ON, M3J 1P3 (City, Province, and Postal Code)

An address is used for surface postal correspondence, or to geographically situate an individual or organization. For Canadian addresses, the postal code is a key component used to determine the location of an individual or organization.

There are three types of student addresses:

  • Permanent: The address at which the student normally resided before attending university.
  • Local: The student’s address during the academic term, which could be the same as their permanent address.
  • Temporary: An address that will be used for a limited amount of time, which could be local or not.

There are two types of Human Resources addresses:

  • Home address: Usually within the province of Ontario due to tax implications.
  • Mailing address: Refers to the individual's campus address. Specifically, it denotes the building where their department is situated.
