Formal Examination Period

The formal examination period is the period of time in which examination schedules for the end of term formal examinations can be set.

The dates that determine this period are part of the annual sessional dates and are set by the Office of the University Registrar in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Senate Policy on Sessional Dates and the Scheduling of Examinations, under the subheading Formal Examination Periods.

Typically: 

  • Fall-Term exams are held in December, prior to the December/January University closure.
  • Winter-Term exams (including year-long courses) are held in April.
  • Summer-Term exams are held in late June for S1 courses and mid-August for S2 and SU courses.
