Non-Employee
Synonym(s): N/A
A non-employee is an individual with a record that is administered in the Human Resources Information System because their pay is managed through PeopleSoft, Human Capital Management (HCM). While their pay is managed through York University, the non-employee does not hold an employment relationship with York University.
Here are a few examples of non-employees at York University:
- Daycare Centre employees, or the York University Development Corporation (YUDC). These individuals are employees of the daycare centre or YUDC, but they are not employees of the University.
- Guest lecturers, who receive an honorarium as a form of compensation for their lectures. Since HR processes their payment, these individuals have records in the Human Resources Information System. The compensation they receive is recorded for tax purposes on a T4A, not a T4, because they do not have an employment relationship with the University.
- The research group consists of research staff, hired directly by employees of the University acting as the Principal Investigators (PI). A PI hires employees using research grant funds and this group represents individuals that report directly to a PI. HR processes pay for these individuals, but there is no employment relationship with the University. Instead, the employment relationship is with the PI. This group can include research casual employees.
