A customized program of doctoral study jointly developed by two institutions for an individual student in which the requirements of each university’s doctoral programs are upheld.

The student works with supervisors at each institution and prepares a single dissertation which is then examined by a committee whose members are drawn from both institutions.

The student is awarded two degree documents, although there is a notation on the transcripts indicating that the student completed their dissertation under Cotutelle arrangements.

A Cotutelle is an inter-institutional type of degree program.
