Petition
Synonym(s): N/A
A petition is an official written or online request for the waiver of a University’s financial schedule or Faculty's academic regulation or deadline. Petitions can have academic and/or financial impact and encompass all students. Petition requests are considered based on submission by posted due dates.
Academic petitions follow the guidelines of each individual Faculty (Academic Unit). Students have the right to petition on reasonable grounds for special consideration. The Faculty's Petitions Committee will review the petition request and decide on a case-by-case basis.
Financial petitions follow University-wide guidelines, and are considered for a period of one year after the occurrence of a serious documented medical illness or the death of an immediate family member. These requests are reviewed by Student Financial Services for undergraduate students and the Faculty of Graduate Studies for graduate students. Petitions are granted at the discretion of the University.
