The IP Innovation Clinic provides Osgoode Hall Law students with access to work-integrated and experiential learning opportunities in IP and technology law. Clinic Fellows are able to enhance their student experiences by taking on greater responsibilities and interactions with clients. Through practical, hands-on experience, students assist start-up and scale up companies navigate real-world legal and business challenges. This experiential education contributes to the career-readiness and success of Clinic Fellows.
IP Innovation Clinic Fellowships are volunteer positions and students’ time is eligible for the Osgoode Public Interest Requirement (OPIR) credit.
The IP Innovation Clinic operates year-round and the recruitment of fellows occurs twice a year for the Fall-Winter terms and for the Summer session. Call for Applications are released on-campus and on-line in August and March/April, respectively.

Giuseppina (Pina) D’Agostino
Professor Giuseppina (Pina) D’Agostino is a law professor, lawyer, public speaker, board director and recognized international scholar at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University specializing in intellectual property (IP), technology and innovation law and policy.
She is the Founder and Director the IP Innovation Clinic, the first legal clinic of its kind helping inventors and start-ups across Canada and, the IP Intensive Program. Through the IP Innovation Clinic she founded the AI-powered IP Innovation ChatBot allowing underrepresented groups and the general public greater access to IP information.
Professor D’Agostino brings her creativity and passion to trailblaze new initiatives and was the Founding Director of the globally-recognized IP Osgoode, the award-winning, and IPilogue.
Professor D’Agostino is Associate Professor and York Research Chair in Intellectual Property, Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies at Osgoode Hall Law School and is the Vice Director (York) of Connected Minds: Neural and Machine Systems for a Healthy, Just Society, and Co-Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Society (CAIS) at York University. She is appointed to the City of Vaughan Smart City Task Force and is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI).
Joseph Turcotte, PhD
Dr. Joseph Turcotte is an award-winning IP and commercialization analyst and specialist with hands-on experience servicing clients with complex IP needs.
He leads and manages the operations of Canada’s largest pro bono IP law clinic. Working with the Director, Joseph defines the strategic direction of the Clinic and its services as well as executes the Clinic’s services, education, marketing, and outreach strategies.
Previously, he held progressively senior roles at a fast-growing IP and boutique law firm in Toronto, leading the IP & Client Solutions team while serving as the firm’s main point of contact surrounding IP needs of existing clients and prospective clients. He assisted the firm’s clients with assessing their complex IP needs and provided recommendations for appropriate IP strategies and services.
He holds a PhD from the Joint Graduate Program in Communication & Culture (Politics & Policy) at York University and Toronto Metropolitan University (then Ryerson University).

Alison McClean

Alison is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School, interested in pharmaceutical intellectual property. She recently completed her MSc at the University of British Columbia in Population and Public Health, with a concentration in Health Economics. Alison also holds a BSc (Honours) in Cellular, Molecular, and Microbiology with a minor in Philosophy as well as a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. Most recently, Alison’s research focused on quantitative assessment of policy interventions to increase the use of biosimilar medicines in Canada and the US. Before coming to Osgoode, Alison spent a year as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. Alison has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including CMAJ, JCO Oncology Practice, and Arthritis Care & Research. Outside of work, Alison enjoys skiing, squash and hiking in the backcountry.

Angela is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to studying at Osgoode, Angela graduated from the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business with a major in Marketing, a concentration in Business Law, and a minor in Law and Society. As an undergraduate student, Angela participated in classes and clubs that led her to develop her entrepreneurial passion. These activities allowed her to foster an entrepreneurial mindset and work with entrepreneurs looking to optimize their companies. Angela is excited to bring her experience and passion forward when working with IP Innovation Clinic clients. Brandon is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to attending Osgoode, Brandon completed his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of British Columbia. His prior experience includes tuberculosis pathogenesis, inflammasome, and bioinformatics research. Brandon is excited to explore the intersection between patents, artificial intelligence, and scientific technology.
Alain Zaramian

Alain Zaramian is a first-year JD candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Before arriving at Osgoode, he completed his PhD in Classics at the University of Texas at Austin. His work on the conventions, innovations, and transmission of literature led him to an interest in IP law. While the intersection of IP law, literature, and book publishing ranks among his primary interests, he is especially enthusiastic to assist innovators and entrepreneurs meet their business and professional goals.

Alice Hao is a first-year JD candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, Alice completed her Honours Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto, majoring in Arts Management and minoring in Public Policy and Media Studies. She actively engages with the arts community as a musician and teaching artist, her background as a classical violinist inspiring her passion for intellectual property law. Jinee Chong is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Before coming to law school, Jinee completed her undergraduate degree in Political Science at the University of Alberta. As a law student and Clinic Fellow, she hopes to help IP Innovation Clinic clients receive legal education and aid in access to justice while growing her interest in intellectual property law.
John Nyman

John Nyman is a first year JD candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. He approaches IP through his passion for human creativity in both science and the arts: he is a published poet, a collective member at The Plumb art gallery and project space, and a former Engineering Communication instructor at the University of Toronto. Prior to law school, John completed a PhD at Western University and an MA at McMaster University, both in critical theory and literature. He’s also a fan of video games, board games, and tabletop RPGs.
Johnson Amoo

Johnson Amoo is a second year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Before university, Johnson’s athletic abilities led him to compete internationally with Toronto F.C.’s Youth Academy and Ghana’s U17 Men’s National Team. These experiences provided him with insight into the intersection of law, sports, and commercialization, motivating him to pursue a legal education and to merge his passion for sports with his interests in law and intellectual property. While at the University of Guelph, Johnson earned athletic scholarships while completing an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy and minoring in Marketing and Consumer Studies. Throughout his academic journey, Johnson’s commitment to excellence extended beyond the classroom, earning him Dean’s List Honours and Academic All-Canadian Awards. In his leisure time, Johnson likes to maintain his fitness and listen to podcasts and classic audiobooks.

Lara Moshaver is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, Lara completed a Bachelor of Music, specializing in Vocal Performance at the University of Toronto. Lara’s interest in IP stems from her work in the music industry as an artist herself and from her time working with record labels to manage artists. In the realm of law, Lara is passionate about protecting artists’ interests and innovations with a focus on copyrights and trademarks in the entertainment industry. Beyond school and work, Lara enjoys all things musical, as well as yoga and travelling.
Liat Benchluch

Liat Benchluch is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, Liat completed a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Guelph. Liat’s fascination with intellectual property law is fueled by her diverse experiences, which include drafting agreements related to intellectual property and conducting extensive legal research to support complex arbitration cases. Liat’s experience with start-ups and small businesses provided her with valuable insight into the protection of intellectual property in business contexts. These experiences have exposed her to the unique challenges businesses face, particularly in the realm of intellectual property. Liat looks forward to applying her experiences and skills to meaningfully contribute to the IP Innovation Clinic. In her free time, Liat enjoys playing sports, camping, and baking.
Madison Skoblo

Madison Skoblo is a first year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, she studied Political Science and History at the University of Toronto. After interning at a legal think tank and working at a boutique IP law firm in Toronto, Madison has gained an interest in exploring the intersection between access to justice, technology, and IP law. Outside of law school, Madison likes to read, go on hikes, and hang out with friends!
Patricia Wang

Patricia is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Before coming to Osgoode, she completed an Honours Specialization in Biology at Western University where she studied cell biology, biochemistry, and environmental studies while minoring in criminology. Patricia’s interest in IP stems from her years of laboratory and research experience, along with her passion for technology and innovation. She is enthusiastic about IP law’s intersections with the life sciences, technology, and the video game industry. As a clinic fellow, she is dedicated to developing a deeper understanding of IP law, while helping innovators protect the fruits of their hard work. Patricia is multilingual and speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Korean. In her time outside of school, she loves to explore new athletic activities (currently rock climbing/bouldering), cooking, and learning new languages (currently Japanese)!
Sahar Hussain

Sahar Hussain is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Sahar holds an Honors Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto Scarborough, a double major in health policy and psychology. From her prior involvement in health-related projects and coursework, Sahar developed a curiosity about the relation between public health and intellectual property. Although open to all fields of inventions in IP, Sahar’s interest lies in patent protection within the pharmaceutical industry and its intersection with healthcare delivery. In her spare time, Sahar enjoys reading novels, working out, and spending time with friends and family.
Seliya Mawani

Seliya Mawani is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, she completed a Bachelor of Science specializing in health science, psychology, and epidemiology. She obtained a Master of Science in Medical Sciences from Western University, where she had the opportunity to engage in various clinical research projects related to patient engagement and management. Her interest in IP stems from her involvement as an innovation scholar at Western where she got to work on an IP and commercialization strategy for a novel medical therapeutic as part of an annual interdisciplinary competition. As a law student, Seliya is excited to learn all about IP law to better understand how innovation and creativity are protected and promoted.

Shajan Sritharan is a third-year JD/MBA Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, he obtained a Honours Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Criminology) and Masters of Arts (Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies) at the University of Toronto. He also has over 4 years of experience leading a small business, engaging in business transactions, and managing projects from concept to execution.
Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, he is passionate about providing legal and business services and information to clients. This developed his interest in intellectual property law and is eager to leverage his skills and past experiences as a caseworker at the Osgoode Venture Capital Clinic at the IP Innovation Clinic.

Stephen Cheung is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, he completed a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Political Science at York University. His research in algorithmic cultures, datafication, and the political theory of technology led him to develop an interest in intellectual property law. He is especially fascinated by the interplay between generative AI, copyright law, and patents.

Ted is a second-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Having earned his Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University, where he double majored in Philosophy and Communication Studies, he brings a unique perspective to his legal studies. His fascination with IP was ignited during his undergraduate years, where he delved deep into the realms of copyright and trademark law, finding himself drawn to the dynamic intersection of innovation, creativity, and legal protection. Ted’s interest in IP law particularly focuses on the dynamic intersection of IP and legal frameworks, driven by a desire to understand how intellectual creations can be protected and leveraged in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Ted is passionate about helping creators and innovators safeguard their intellectual assets, ensuring that legal protections keep pace with technological advancements. In his spare time, he enjoys being active in the outdoors, spending days on the water or on trail walks with his dog Buster.
Theodora (Thea) Gribilas

Theodora (Thea) Gribilas is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, Thea completed a Bachelor of Journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). Throughout her undergraduate, Thea worked several jobs in the journalism industry including as a reporter at the Toronto Star and as an editor at The Eyeopener, TMU’s independent student newspaper. It is during these experiences that Thea’s interest in Intellectual Property began—interests which have continued to grow during law school.
Travis Godfrey

Travis Godfrey is a third-year JD candidate. Before matriculating at Osgoode Hall Law School, he studied at the King’s University of Edmonton, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oxford. His interest in intellectual property law stems from its international and geopolitical dimensions, as well as its importance in protecting and promoting human creativity. Questions he would like to explore further relate to the constitutional status of intellectual property, the domestic and international regulation of intellectual property rights, and the impact of emerging technologies in this domain of the law. In his spare time, Travis enjoys reading, cheering for the Edmonton Oilers, and taking his golden retriever, Gracie, out for walks.
Vanessa Rietta

Vanessa Rietta is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, she attended York University and obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Society, where she studied a wide range of sociolegal issues. Vanessa developed an interest in intellectual property from an undergraduate research project on gene patenting. Through this project, she learned about access to justice and pertinent social issues relating to patent law, which she is looking forward to exploring in practice with the IP Innovation Clinic. Outside of school, Vanessa enjoys watching true crime dramas and documentaries, yoga and pilates, and traveling.
Yiwen Han
JD Candidate 2026
Yiwen Han is a first year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School, specializing in the Intensive Tax Stream, expected to graduate in May 2026. She obtained a master’s degree in international economics at Johns Hopkins University and completed her undergraduate study at Western University.
Prior to pursuing her law degree, Yiwen worked on research and development tax incentives for automotive OEM and conducted transfer pricing analysis for heavy-equipment industry clients. Her professional journey also includes experience as data analyst in the retail and financial sector. Passionate about manufacturing and technology, she is proficient in multiple languages, including Mandarin and French, and possesses a diverse skill set including VBA, SQL, R and Tableau.

Mahsa is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school. Prior to law school, Mahsa completed a Bachelor of Science, specializing in Biomedical Sciences, at York University. Mahsa’s interest in IP stems from her involvement in research projects, such as diagnosing breast cancer using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to efficiently differentiate malignant cells from benign cells. Manvinder is a first-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law school. He recently completed a BASc in Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta and a MASc in Materials Engineering at the University of Toronto. Manvinder has worked in a wide range of practice areas, including industry and research work with collaborators from mining and aerospace companies. Manvinder’s background and love of technology and innovation has led to his interest in intellectual property. In his free time, Manvinder is an avid sports fan and enjoys working out and travelling.

Denise is a second-year JD Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, she studied Creative Writing, English, and the School for Advanced Studies in the Arts and Humanities (SASAH) at Western University. Denise’s passion for the arts, coupled with her experience in digital marketing and film, led to her interest in the IP Innovation Clinic. She is excited to develop her intellectual property knowledge while working closely with inventors and entrepreneurs.
