Due to unforeseen delays with electrical and network connections, we will not be able to open Osgoode Library Services until Tuesday morning (Sept. 8 – the day after Labour Day) at 8:00 a.m. Our library hours will be as posted on the Osgoode Library website.
As a reminder, Osgoode Library Services is located next door in the Health, Nursing & Environmental Studies building in room 018 (HNES 018). The room is easily and quickly accessed from Osgoode through the tunnel to HNES (follow the corridor opposite MDC on the ground floor), so you don’t even have to go outside in a Downsview winter. As you enter HNES from the tunnel, just keep to the left and you can’t miss it. If you enter HNES through either of the main entrances, Osgoode Library Services is located right at the bottom of the stairs.
Osgoode Library Services is where you’ll find the Reserve book collection and circulation services, as well as the Reference Desk, where reference librarians are available to answer any questions and provide research assistance. Please don’t hesitate to call upon their expertise. There is also a complete legal reference collection, including federal and Ontario statutes and regulations and some basic law reports series (SCR, FC, DLR, OR, All ER). There are 30 seats at study tables/carrels and 18 PC workstations (all but two of which are reserved for use by Osgoode students and require an Osgoode logon). The space is equipped with wireless Internet and network access. A networked photocopier/printer will be available.
The Osgoode Students’ Reading Room, reserved for the exclusive use of Osgoode students, is located on the 5th (not the 4th) floor of the Scott Library. When you reach the top of the escalators, you need to exit to the balcony surrounding the atrium. The Osgoode Reading Room is located on the south side of the balcony (the windows have a great view over the law school!) Access is keypad-controlled and restricted to Osgoode students. The access code is clearly posted on MyPage on the MyOsgoode portal and will be changed weekly. (Currently, the access code is 1968.) NB: There are two doors into the room but only one of them has a keypad installed. The other door is an exit only.
The Osgoode Students’ Reading Room provides space for 100 students at study tables and carrels. Wireless Internet access (Air York) is provided. If you try to use the Reading Room today, you may find that the area in front of the door is taped off because of some repair work being done to the ceiling above. We probably shouldn’t advise this, but you can slip under the tape and proceed to the Reading Room entrance. Don’t be misled by the purple sign beside the door that says “Graduate Student Offices”, which will be removed. There is a red sign in the door window saying “Osgoode Reading Room”. The room is functional, though we’re still waiting for facilities to plug in the power cords for the carrels. A networked photocopier/printer will be installed sometime next week.
A note on photocopying and printing from the Osgoode library facilities: Effective immediately, all printing and photocopying equipment in Osgoode library facilities (Library Services and Reading Room) will accept only the YU-Card system for payment. (For more information about photocopying/print with the YU-Card, click here.) Osgoode Law Library photocopy cards are no longer accepted. If you have an Osgoode photocopy card, you can transfer any oustanding balance from the card to your YU-Card account at the Osgoode Library Services or Scott Library circulation desks. The cost of photocopying/printing is now 10 cents per page. We’ll provide more information about printing at Osgoode Library facilities next week, after the photocopiers/printers have been connected.
