Abstract: This project focuses on developing a transformative, community-led framework for a digital health ecosystem to enhance chronic disease management in remote Indigenous communities of the Mushkegowuk Territory. Through an Indigenous-led approach, we are partnering with community members to reimagine how health information and services are delivered and integrated using digital and AI tools, ensuring that this framework aligns with Indigenous values and supports individual and community-based healthcare needs.
Queen’s University Faculty of Health Sciences has maintained a unique and long-standing partnership with the Mushkegowuk Territory since 1965, expanding access to healthcare for approximately 10,000 Indigenous Peoples. This project builds on that history by employing participatory, community-based research methods such as Community Talking Circles, Hybrid Group Concept Mapping, and Participatory Mapping. These methods will guide the co-creation of a digital health framework informed by local knowledge and reflecting Indigenous lived experiences.
Our approach integrates Indigenous research paradigms with Western methodologies to develop a guiding framework for implementing person-centered health solutions. This framework will explore how digital health tools can be used effectively to complement traditional healing practices and improve chronic disease management. By understanding community and health provider attitudes toward technology and exploring how digital ecosystems can enhance health and wellness, we aim to create a model that bridges the techno social divide and supports a sustainable, culturally resonant approach to healthcare delivery.
